As Autumn kicks in and we approach the flu season, are we prepared for what lies ahead?
We’ve been blessed with a glorious spring and summer, COVID or no COVID, but today the heavens opened for what seems like the first time in months. Sure, it’s only a spot of rain, but it got me thinking, can we handle what’s to come?
Furlough ends at the end of October, so what of the economy? At the same time the clocks go back, will the vulnerable be even more isolated? Then there’s the flu season, placing pressure on an NHS just as, it’s predicted, it’ll be reaching crisis point again. Then there’s Halloween, Guy Fawkes and the big one’s, Christmas and New Year. Will we have the army on the streets dispersing crowds? It doesn’t bear thinking about.
And all the while, Schools and bars remain open, leaving the outbreak largely unchecked. No Lockdown this time, not even a circuit breaker. We’re naked in the rain.
Is this downpour a signal that it’s time to get back indoors again like we did the last time. Not an option for those who have to go to work now of course, but I get the horrible feeling we had it easy in the first wave. This is the real test of our resolve.
Winter is coming. I hope it is only a bit of rain, for all our sakes.
