10k Steps A Day – My Weight Loss Challenge.

10k Steps A Day - My Weight Loss Challenge.

On November 1st 2025, after an ankle injury put an end to any thought of running, I decided to walk a minimum of 10k steps a day to get myself moving again. Since then, things have spiralled!

In the beginning…

…I was happy to just get out of the house and to be on my feet again. I work from home, so exercise is doubly important, but I also have an active family life and finding time throughout the day is often extremely difficult. However, to paraphrase Arnie, we all get given 24 hours every day to use as we please. Most people work for a third of that, and sleep for another third, giving us the final third for everything else. I chose dawn, before everyone awoke, to start putting ‘one foot in front of the other’.

The November weight-loss results.

I had at least 3 stone to lose, so the first month was easy. I love walking, and I tried to cut down on the snacks. It was great to get out early in the morning, feel that sense of accomplishment, and to be out there in the fresh air, especially where I live, by the coast. I lost a stone in November and thoroughly enjoyed it, but as I took in the beautiful landscapes every morning, I had an idea.

Combining my hobbies and goals.

What if I could combine my love of walking and my surrounding area, my weight-loss goals, my YouTube channel AND try to get others inspired along the way?  Could I make that a powerful motivator? Could I make the journey even more enjoyable? I made my plans.

The 10k Steps a Day Template.

Good old Chat GPT gave me the detailed format for my embryonic idea.  I would do a short (3 min max) video, once a day, in the following format:

  • Introduction: 10k Steps a Day, Introducing my whereabouts and local scenery/landmarks (We’ll get to that)
  • Flip to selfie cam
  • Calorie deficit for yesterday.
  • Weight lost today
  • Weight lost in total
  • Thoughts of the day (We’ll get to that also).
  • See you tomorrow

The Local Scenery

I am spoilt for choice when it comes to my intro sequences, The North Shields Fish Quay, The piers, and the award-winning beaches and fabulous sights of Tynemouth, Cullercoats and Whitley Bay. I really don’t have any issue finding somewhere interesting and/or beautiful to walk to. What I didn’t anticipate was the effect these places had on people who have since left the area, and the appreciation I’ve received from viewers for the nostalgic reminders. I’ve learned to appreciate the place more myself.

Thoughts of the Day

I left this section open; it could be anything from a comment on weight loss or gain, to my reasons for doing it, or getting deep into how I’m feeling that day. I wanted to show you around, externally and internally.

Tomorrow is day 50!

And so, on the 1st of December, I published my first 10k Steps a Day video to YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, and I’ve been doing it ever since, throughout the worst of the British weather!  Check them out here,

Also, don’t forget to subscribe to the channel, Guitar Geordie
