Who are Harson Robkus?

Harson Robkus are Adam Harkus (that’s me!) and Dave Robson, a songwriting duo from North Shields, England. You can check out all our music here. We’ve been in bands and written music for decades (I’ve lost count).

That’s in Shields?

That’s in Shields is a song about the pubs in our home town of North Shields, some now sadly closed. Musically, it started life over 10 years ago as a song we dubbed The Lighter Song but never took any further. Once we had the idea of a pub-crawl type song we discovered the chord structure was a perfect fit.

How was the song That’s in Shields composed?

That’s in Shields features a few uncommon musical elements. Firstly, the song is broken down into 3 repeating sections, a spoken part in free time, another much more rhythmic spoken part to a bass drum and the introduction of a droning bass where we list the pubs followed by ‘That’s in Shields’ which is verging into rap territory, and finally a singalong chorus complete with backing vocals where the bass opens up, but maintaining the same beat and chord structure used throughout the song.

This is the second song we’ve released with a North Shields theme. The first one being The Shields Shanty.

Other North Shields-themed songs are in the works, so watch this space.
