5 Music Albums You Must Listen to on Vinyl

5 Music Albums You Must Listen to on Vinyl. The Blogging Musician @ adamharkus.com

Many music fans keen on listening to music on vinyl for nostalgia, however, nowadays it’s trendy. Another reason is individual perception and preferences of the sound quality. If you want to try this experience, you should get a good receiver, a vinyl cleaner, and some good old-fashioned vinyl records.

1. Pink Floyd, The Wall (1979)

This album became a legend and one of the conceptual masterpieces in the history of rock music. The phrases “We don’t need no education” and “Teacher, leave the kids alone!” from the song Another Brick in the Wall sound like a slogan even for today’s youth. This album is laced with pain and pleas for help. Its thirst for love, attention, and understanding gets under our skin. There are 26 tracks in the album and all of them have the power to change a person’s mind. Pink Floyd’s frontman Roger Waters based The Wall on his own life experience.

2. The Beatles, Revolver (1966)

This album came from the best Beatles’ period – the most fruitful and serene at the same time. Their producer managed to open his own record studio giving the Fab Four a chance to write in their own unique style,  ridding themselves of other labels that had been a yoke around their necks. Each member of the band could fulfil their potential and contribute. Paul McCartney’s genius was especially noticeable in Revolver.

3. David Bowie, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1972)

Sir David Bowie wouldn’t be Sir David Bowie without Ziggy Stardust. It was his first album and it remained the best for many of Bowie’s fans. Note that the American and British versions exist and are different. For example, the single mix Starman was included in the UK variant. Suffragette City’s American release contains a well-identified transient sound dropout on one channel. Every track is pertinent, every note is in its proper place, that’s why this album is worth your attention.

4. Fleetwood Mac, Rumors (1978)

This album is very popular and deserves its classic status because of the best vocal harmonies ever recorded. The musicians became a cultural phenomenon and a role model for pop singers. Their glamorous look and gloomy soul with a touch of desperation inspired such idols as Billy Corgan, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, and Courtney Love. While listening to songs, you enjoy every note, feeling something light and personal.

5.Nirvana, In Utero (1993)

True grunge music sounds great only on vinyl, freezing your thoughts and soul. The record was unexpectedly successful – few people believed in the goodwill of the audience after the band had returned to its wild and extremely passionate roots. In this album, we see the path of an anti-hero’s glory with the shades of punk and indie. While listening to the music, we hear and feel the damage and ruining of an extraordinary dream that was realized but distorted by circumstances.
