COVID Conspiracy: Official Music Video

COVID Conspiracy: Official Music Video

COVID Conspiracy is a new song by Harson Robkus, our first in 10 years, and is accompanied by our debut music video, which is premiering TONIGHT on YouTube (10/12/2021) at 9 pm UK time.

*EDIT The video is now LIVE!

Who are Harson Robkus?

COVID Conspiracy is written, produced and performed by Harson Robkus, who are Adam Harkus (that’s me!) and David Lee Robson. Friends for the best part of 30 years, bandmates, and a songwriting duo for the last 10 years hailing from the ‘canny toon’ of North Shields, England, UK.

I have a dedicated Harson Robkus section here if you’d like more info and more music from us.

How did the song COVID Conspiracy come about?

COVID Conspiracy came about spontaneously during one of our allotment shed practice sessions. Dave had a bunch of words with no music so we thought why not put together a ‘rap’ style arrangement together with some melodies we had for the chorus and an existing idea for acoustic accompaniment.

As the dark nights arrived, we thought we’d give remote music production a try, and this is the result!

Lyrically, the clue is in the title I suppose, but it’s also a commentary on the world today: Climate change, the woke generation, mental health, globalisation. Personally? I can’t speak for Dave here, but I think this song and in particular, the making of this song represents that people can achieve something together, even if they aren’t in the same room and have different views. It’s all about the yin and yang 🙂

In fact, working remotely and having our own opinions probably made it better!

Musically, this is driven by an increasingly manic (and feeding back!) acoustic guitar, with an ominous synth soundscape building in the background. Vocally it’s terse, intricate rapping/storytelling, broken up by a simple, repeating melody. Black and White, just like the video.

Ultimately, COVID, terrible government, public fear, and a cancel culture haven’t stopped us from making our own music on our own terms.

Hope you like it,
