The Line 6 Spider series has evolved quite a lot over the years. The latest generation, Spider V, comes in V and V MkII models.

I own the Spider V 120. Anything smaller than the 120 sounds great and functions primarily as a great practice amp. The Spider V 20 is perfect for students and home hobbyists. The Spider V 120 and above are great gigging amps. Simplicity, lots of options, and even better when paired with the FBV III Floorboard foot controller.

The amp is very lightweight and plenty loud for the average local gig. At 120W, it pushes nicely. It works great for electric, acoustic, and Variax, too. With XLR out on the back, you can easily run directly to your PA to get into the mix, or even use this for recording. Alternately, the USB port on the back allows Spider V to work as a USB interface.

Suppose you have a show on a big stage, however, and want more “oomph” for your stage volume. Spider V 120 (and above) can be easily expanded. Just hook up to a powered FRFR speaker and you’re good to go!

Check out my review and demo of how Spider V works and sounds with FRFR speaker systems like the HeadRush 112 and the Line 6 PowerCab 212 Plus!
